ExpiryAlarm
The short version: ExpiryAlarm does not collect, store, or share any personal data on our servers. We don't have servers that hold your data, we don't use analytics, and you never create an account. Everything you add stays on your device.
1. Who this policy is for
This Privacy Policy applies to the ExpiryAlarm mobile application ("ExpiryAlarm", "the app", "we", "us"). By using ExpiryAlarm, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.
2. Data we collect
We do not collect any personal data. ExpiryAlarm has no user accounts, no sign-up, and no login. We do not gather your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, advertising identifiers, or usage analytics.
Everything you enter into ExpiryAlarm — item names, expiry dates, categories, profiles, notes, and any photos you attach — is stored locally on your device only. This information is never transmitted to us and never leaves your device unless you choose to export it yourself.
3. Where your data is stored
ExpiryAlarm stores your data in a private database on your device using local, on-device storage. We have no access to this data. It is protected by the security of your device and your operating system. If you uninstall the app, this data is removed by the operating system in the normal way.
4. Works fully offline
All core features of ExpiryAlarm — adding items, setting reminders, and receiving full-screen expiry alarms — work entirely offline and require no internet connection. Reminders are scheduled locally on your device.
5. Optional barcode lookup
ExpiryAlarm includes an optional barcode-scanning feature. If — and only if — you choose to scan a product barcode, the app sends that barcode number to the free, public Open Food Facts database to fetch the product's name. This request contains only the barcode number. It does not include any personal information, your identity, your item list, or anything else about you.
If you never use the barcode scanner, ExpiryAlarm makes no network requests of this kind. You can use the entire app by adding items manually and remain completely offline.
6. Permissions the app may request
- Notifications & alarms — so ExpiryAlarm can show full-screen reminders and play alarm sounds before your items expire. Handled entirely on-device.
- Camera — only used if you scan a barcode or attach a photo to an item. Images stay on your device.
- Storage / files — only used when you export or import a backup file that you initiate.
These permissions are used solely for the features described and never to collect data about you.
7. Backups you control
ExpiryAlarm lets you export your data to a file and import it back later. These backup files are created and moved by you. If you save a backup to another location — such as cloud storage, email, or a shared drive — that data then falls under the privacy practices of whatever service you chose. ExpiryAlarm is not involved in and has no visibility into that transfer.
8. Children's privacy
ExpiryAlarm does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children. Because no data is collected on our side, the app poses no data-collection risk to users of any age.
9. Third-party services
Aside from the optional Open Food Facts barcode lookup described in Section 5, ExpiryAlarm does not integrate advertising networks, analytics providers, trackers, or social-media SDKs.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, to reflect new features. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be reflected within the app or on this website.
